As your advisor, Marty will coordinate the wealth and investment management process for you. He will help you identify your goals and then work with you to implement a series of strategies that will help you realize your vision for the future.
By way of background, Marty holds a finance degree from the University of Texas and a law degree from South Texas College of Law. After practicing law for fifteen years, Marty joined his father Lane at Kerns Capital in 2007 to pursue his original passion for the capital markets and managing money. He acquired the firm in 2012.
Outside of the firm, Marty has served on the boards of the Guggenheim Rydex Dynamic Advisory Board and the National Association of Active Investment Managers. He also volunteered his time as coach and commissioner for many years in Houston’s Spring Branch Memorial Sports Association.
Marty and his wife Cari have two children with one a Senior in college and the other a Senior in high school. They also have two Labrador Retrievers waiting patiently to assume the vacated roles of their two-legged siblings.
Parker joined the team in 2014, bringing with him an extensive financial background. In addition to being a wealth advisor, Parker is principally responsible for developing and managing the firm’s investment strategies. He also assists Mr. Kerns in assuring ongoing service for all KCM clients.
Prior to joining Kerns Capital, Parker practiced law for nineteen year before opening his own wealth management firm. For nearly 30 years, Parker has acted as a fiduciary for his clients. As a former partner of nineteen years, he is well aware of the particular challenges facing successful business owners and professionals who aspire to financial independence.
Parker grew up in Houston and attended Memorial High School with Marty Kerns. After getting his degree from Duke in 1988 on the Dean’s List, Parker graduated UT Law School in 1991 with Honors where he served as an Articles Editor on the Texas Law Review. Parker attends Memorial Drive Presbyterian, and donates his time and treasure to the University of Houston.
